19th February 2016 – Obviously I’m using the Chinese calender so welcome to the year of the Monkey!
Last year I returned to ceramics properly after taking a 10ish year break. In that time I’d had some children and moved house about 100 times so playing with clay was not really a priority! I am now settled, with children who can mostly manage themselves, so I’m able to get back to making things. I don’t have a studio to work from, but I have a kitchen table, a table-top shimpo and access to a kiln, so it’s all good.
Last year I exhibited in three venues as part of Purbeck Art Weeks. I made some dragons and got back into throwing with some Raku bottles. This year I am taking part in Purbeck Art Weeks as part of a joint open studio in Swanage. Have a look at my Exhibitions page for more information. I’m hoping to expand my range of dragons and add a few other bits to my portfolio . . .
Purbeck Art Weeks Festival is a wonderful event which showcases the work of local artists through open studios and exhibitions of visual arts, combined with performance, music, film and lectures. It runs over two weeks in May and June each year with over 80 artist regularly exhibiting their work. I am very grateful to the other artists involved in the festival for giving me the inspiration and motivation to get my self going again!
